Hewlett-Packard $15 Million Digital Villages

Article About Project

Empowerment Evaluations

Hewlett-Packard has awarded $15 million to 3 digital villages throughout the United States. HP's Philanthropy and Education executives also provided additional support at each site. One of the villages is in East Palo Alto, the second in Baltimore, and the third is the Tribal Digital Village in San Diego. The third village consists of 18 tribes. The aim of this philanthropic venture is to help underserved communities address their most pressing social and economic needs, as defined by each community. An empowerment evaluation approach has been adopted in each digital village in part because it is both rigorous and aligned with this philosophy of self-help.

Brief videos of the initial empowerment evaluation workshops at each digital village are presented below to provide some insight into the process and the productive spirit associated with this approach. The reports require password protection to access and are only available for the clients at this time.
